This week we are exploring the word PROMISE as it relates to our assignment in the Kingdom of God. We have looked at Joshua 1:1-3 all week to see what God would reveal to us through His Word. Joshua 1:1-3 (KJV) 1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. PROMISE - a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.; assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen. S = SAY Say - utter words so to convey information, an opinion, a feeling or intention, or an instruction; an opportunity for stating one’s opinion or feelings. You have what you SAY... How often do you find yourself SAYING exactly what God has SAID? I believe if we are honest with ourselves, we are probably guilty of talking more about our problems than the PROMISES OF GOD. We have the ability to experience God every time we open up our mouths and agree with Him! Let us trust God to do what He has said He will do, as we do what He has commanded. Let’s say what God has said! Allow your speech to push you into the promises of God. May God blow your mind with the PROMISES that He manifests in your life this week!!! PROMISE - a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.; assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen. I = IMPETUS Impetus - a driving force; impulse; incentive; stimulus; stimulation or encouragement resulting in increased activity. Why do you do what you do? What drives you to press your way through? As we talk about Kingdom principles, often these questions require an answer. Simply put, we lose focus, just long enough, to forget that our mission is to glorify God, as we make more disciples. Another thing we forget is God’s IMPETUS is love. Because we have a tendency to forget the IMPETUS behind our actions, it often becomes easy to walk contrary to or silently drift away from the PROMISES of God. If you have not arrived at the place that God’s word fuels your actions just because God said it, my recommendation is for you to spend some extra time walking in the PROMISES of God and watch Him shift your perspective! Let us trust God to do what He has said He will do, as we do what He has commanded. Allow obedience to God to push you into the promises of God. M = MASTER Master - having or showing very great skill or proficiency; gain control or overcome. Have you MASTERED trusting the Word or PROMISES of God, or are you still MASTERING your opinion? I know that sounded like a loaded question, but this is Turnaround Thursday and on this day we are making a drastic shift in how we do things. Daily, I see and experience examples of MASTERING “halting between two opinions”. It is as if we attempt to negotiate with God concerning what He has said. Rather than accept His Word for what it is, The Truth, and walk in His PROMISES with assurance, boldness and confidence, we become MASTERS of stating what we think. For example, God says ‘we are the head and not the tail’, but we spend countless hours convincing ourselves why we need to work for someone else. God says ‘we are above only and not beneath’, but we spend countless hours allowing others to put us under their feet or believe whatever they have to say about us. God says ‘we are the lender and not the borrower’, but we are allowing debt, stress and anxiety to silently keep us in bondage daily. The question that is demanding an answer today is.... “How long will you stay stuck in the place you are in, rather than operate in the PROMISES of God. Today is the day that we shift from the world system of thinking to the Kingdom system of thinking by MASTERING the Word of God. Let us trust God to do what He has said He will do, as we do what He has commanded. May God blow your mind with the PROMISES that He manifests in your life this week!!! Sometimes what hinders us from experiencing the PROMISES of God is our unwillingness to let go of our past or get beyond the obstacles in front of us. When we truly believe in the PROMISES of God, our guarantee is rooted and grounded in the truth that God said it. Let us trust God to do what He has said He will do, as we do what we have said. R = RESPOND Respond - to say or do something as a reaction to something that has been said or done. When God makes a PROMISE to us, we have a few ways that we can RESPOND: 1. IGNORE HIM 2. HEAR HIM & DISOBEY 3. HEAR HIM & OBEY Just in case no one ever challenged you with the truth, allow me to share that obedience is always the best RESPONSE to God. Allow me to add that partial obedience is still disobedience and disobedience breeds anxiety. So, as you study God’s Word (the Bible) and become aquatinted with the PROMISES of God, make up your mind to RESPOND to God with 100% obedience. Self-evaluation: If you are not experiencing the PROMISES of God as a lifestyle, ask yourself... How am I RESPONDING to God? Again, this is another one of those questions that will demand an answer. If God said it, we have a guarantee! Let us trust God to do what He has said, as we do what He said. May God blow your mind with the PROMISES that He manifests in your life this week!!! P = PARTAKE Partake - eat or drink (something); join in (an activity); to take part in or experience something along with others. When is the last time you took time to feast on the Word of God? Hear me when I say it’s not just about chewing on the Word, but actually digesting the Word of God so that it may nourish your entire body. The PROMISES of God are YES and AMEN! BUT... we have a responsibility of knowing what God has said and PARTAKING in the entire process of what God requires of us so that the PROMISES can manifest in our lives! As in the natural, sometimes we eat at a very fast pace and don’t even taste and/or enjoy what has been set before us. We don’t necessarily take time to savor what is in the meal. This week as we look at Joshua 1:1-3, I believe we will “taste and see” just how good God is. We will walk in the provision of what God has already done. Take time this week to chew the Word of God. When you PARTAKE this time, see yourself manifesting the PROMISES of God! If God said it, we have a guarantee! Let us trust God to do what He has said. Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God]. Reflect - (of a surface or body) throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it; think deeply or carefully about. Do you know Whose you are? Do you know who you are? Our REFLECTION of God has to be TRUE on every level. I am often reminded that we only get one opportunity to make a first impression. With that being said, we must strive to be TRUE to who God is at all times. As Kingdom citizens, we cannot afford to kill our witness or testimony! We must represent the Kingdom of God in everything we do and say to the glory of God! Let’s trust the ENTIRE PROCESS as we journey to REFLECT the image and likeness of God daily! We are beyond excited to announce the launch of our middle school ministry. Activate Youth Ministry will expose 6th-8th grade students to God’s love by engaging Biblical truths, embracing fellowship, and encouraging service. Activate will meet once a month. This month we will start the YOUnique 8-week study where students will "discover their gifts, accept their design, access God’s power, and launch them into action". Have your middle schooler join Elder and Minister Sturkey Sunday, August 25th from 5-7pm. Dinner will be served.

We are looking at 1 Corinthians 13:12 all week to see what God will reveal to us through His Word. 1 Corinthians 13:12 Amplified (AMPC) 12 For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God]. Reflect - (of a surface or body) throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it; think deeply or carefully about. C = COMMUNICATE Communicate - share or exchange information, news or ideas; to transmit information, thought, or feeling so that it is satisfactorily received or understood. Do you know Whose you are? Do you know who you are? How well do you COMMUNICATE to others that you are a REFLECTION of the family of God? So often, we forget that even when we aren’t speaking with words that our actions are talking loudly! While we intend to COMMUNICATE faith, love, joy, mercy and grace, sometimes we miss the mark in how we react or respond to life’s challenge. The truth of who we are is COMMUNICATED through our lifestyle daily! We must take time to consistently evaluate the message our words and actions are COMMUNICATING to others. The scriptures remind us that others will know that we are His by our love. Today’s challenge: When we speak, through words and actions, allow love to be the message we COMMUNICATE loud and clear! We must represent the Kingdom of God in everything we do and say to the glory of God! Let’s trust the ENTIRE PROCESS as we journey to REFLECT the image and likeness of God daily! E = EXPRESSION Expression - the act of saying what you think or showing how you feel using words or actions. Expression comes from a Latin word meaning “to press out”. Maybe you have heard the phrase, “It’s written all over your face”. Similar to a tube of toothpaste, under enough pressure, what’s in you, will come out, one way or another. Often the EXPRESSION on our face communicates a message opposite of what we mean to share. It’s unfortunate that many times our words and actions do not REFLECT the Word of God, but in actuality, REFLECT our fears that are dormant beneath the surface. Do you know Whose you are? Do you know who you are? Our EXPRESSION of faith should remain on display to the glory of God, regardless of the situation we face. In other words, our words, facial expressions and body language should reveal that the joy of the Lord is indeed our strength. The next time someone reads your EXPRESSIONS, let them read the fullness of God: love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. We have heard the EXPRESSION that ‘we are what we eat’, but in this instance, I believe ‘we are what we think’ is a more appropriate declaration! Change your thoughts, so you can change your world. When we live our life out loud and put our LIFESTYLE on display, others are influenced by what we say and do. The challenge becomes how we balance what we can do with what we should do. In other words, just because the Bible doesn’t say I can’t do it, or the Bible says that I can do it, do I take time to evaluate if I should do it? I believe we experience a true turnaround when we recognize that someone is attempting to mimic our actions because of what we put on display. In life we have questions that demand an answer. Such is the next question... Do Kingdom principles govern your lifestyle? The REFLECTION that you cast should draw others into the Kingdom of God, rather than run them away. Starting today, let’s stand in the mirror of God’s Word (the Holy Bible) until God Himself reveals to each of us what changes we need to make with our LIFESTYLE. F = FULLY Fully - completely or entirely; to the furthest extent; no less or fewer than. Do you know Whose you are? Do you know who you are? When we know WHOSE we are and WHO we are, we are able to FULLY embrace our identity. I believe the identity crisis being revealed in the world today is a direct REFLECTION of our failure to FULLY embrace WHO God has said that we are in His Word. Our challenge is woven in our fear of becoming. We are challenged to trust God FULLY and walk by faith and not by sight! We are challenged by the thought that we are more than enough to accomplish the purpose God has for us. We are challenged to see beyond our current, limited circumstances. When we FULLY embrace God for who He is, our REFLECTION reveals that we are truly His. Are you guilty of putting limits on what God can do in and through your life? Starting today, shift your mindset to FULLY embrace EVERYTHING God has said to you! Trust the ENTIRE PROCESS as we journey to REFLECT the image and likeness of God daily! E = ESSENCE Essence - the permanent, as contrasted with the accidental element of being; the basic, real and invariable nature of a thing or its significant individual feature or features. Do you know Whose you are? Do you know who you are? Today it became crystal clear that while a mirror provides a REFLECTION of the image that is in front of it, the mirror does not have the ability to capture the ESSENCE of the object. In other words, while the mirror can reflect what’s on the outside of an object (person), the mirror cannot capture what is on the inside of the object (person). The mirror cannot capture your character, integrity, likes, dislikes, pains, self esteem or feelings. No, the mirror simply shows you what you show it. So, here are today’s questions that are demanding an answer... Do you truly know what’s on the inside of you? What are you carrying in your heart and mind? What is the substance that shows up regardless of the situation you find yourself in? Most would attempt to answer those questions with words, but our actions have already answered for us. Our actions reveal who and Whose we really are! Our challenge is to REFLECT the love of God no matter what the situation is. Allow me to share a few examples of the behavior we should desire to REFLECT... 1. “For God SO LOVED the world that He GAVE...” 2. Jesus said, “Father, FORGIVE them for they know not what they do...” 3. “If you see your brother overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, RESTORE...” The ESSENCE of God is put on display through the ministry of restoration and reconciliation, especially during our most challenging moments. The ESSENCE of God is love. If our REFLECTION does not REFLECT the ESSENCE of who God is, in and through us, we have work to do. Trust the ENTIRE PROCESS as we journey to REFLECT the image and likeness of God daily! Be Blessed! ~ Elder Barnes ✝️❤️✝️
